An
introduction to the field of personality psychology. The
course
is built around three intertwined aspects of personality
study: theory, research and assessment. Students are
introduced to the major theoretical approaches in
personality psychology, with attention being paid to recent
developments in this field. Also, personality assessment
methods related to each of these approaches are discussed
and exercised in assignments.
Finally, critical thinking about personality research and
its applications in different professional fields is
encouraged. |

course
focuses on the helping and counselling profession as applied
in the work environment and related fields. The aim is to
acquaint students with the necessary theoretical insights
and stimulate initial development towards gaining effective
skills as a counsellor. Besides an introduction to the
conceptual fundaments of the helping process, including
attention to multicultural issues, assignments
are designed to actively train basic counselling skills.

introduction to psychology as a social science, i.e. the
study of the individual in his/her social context. The
course covers topics such as life-span development,
motivation, emotion, stress, health and coping, social
cognition and behaviour, personality and psychopathology.
Students get acknowledged with the theories and research
regarding these different fields of psychology and are
stimulated in their critical evaluation of the societal
applications of this knowledge .

theoretical bases of psychological testing and assessmentare
discussed. Topics covered include, for example, the
assessment process, specificities of assessment according to
context, test standardisation, different forms of
reliability and validity. Furthermore, psychological
assessment techniques and testing in different professional
settings are reviewed and practiced. Special attention goes
to ethical and cultural issues, as the possibilities and
limitations of psychological testing in these settings are
considered. |

This course
provides a review of research and theories concerning human
development from infancy into adulthood. Individuals'
physical, cognitive and psychosocial development is
discussed throughout the lifespan. Timely issues such as the
continuity of personality development, the impact of
changing families on child development, risk and resilience
factors in the context of interacting neurobiological,
psychosocial and cultural developmental pathways, will be
addressed. The goals of this course are to learn about
principal theoretical insights and recent research regarding
human development and to foster insight about how knowledge
about childhood development contributes to understanding of
adult behaviour. |
