The forum meets yearly,
hosted by one of the members.
The Forum is associated with the International Union of Forest Research Organisations’ (IUFRO) urban forestry group, as well as with several European and Nordic networks for urban forestry

Planting new forests in urban areas 
New strategies for large scale urban green space management
Revitalization of ecosystem services on floodplains, derelict land and traffic corridors, military areas, etc.
Response strategies to new demands of providing healthy living and working conditions
Revitalization and management of urban waterways to improve urban forest health

The conference in Glasgow focused on how urban forestry and green networks (green infrastructure) programmes can connect to people and business at the neighbourhood, city-wide and regional scale. Arnhem has been acknowledged as the Greenest City in the Netherlands in 2008.To celebrate this ‘green award’, the city of Arnhem hosted the 2009 European Forum on Urban Forestry (EFUF), in collaboration with the Dutch Urban Forestry Network.
The Forum discussed how to promote the many contributions of urban forests to healthy, attractive and competitive cities.

Recreation and Tourism serving Urbanised Societies''

The 11th Forum will be held together with the final conference of COST Action E33 'Forest Recreation and Tourism'. This will ensure some very good speakers on the recreational and touristic values of urban and other woodlands. Hämeenlinna also hosts one of the first National City Parks in Europe, so the setting will be perfect for an urban forestry event.
