BRUSSELS ECONOMIC REVIEW - CAHIERS ECONOMIQUES DE BRUXELLES

Instructions to authors

Authors wishing to submit a manuscript to be considered for publication in the Brussels Economic Review should send an e-mail to the managing editor Michele Cincera: mcincera@ulb.ac.be, with their manuscript as an attachment. Accepted languages are English and French.

Each submission is subject to a double-blind refereeing process. The editorial board is committed to a swift and fair refereeing process. In particular, submitted papers are judged on the quality of their content only. The author's institutional affiliation, race, sex, age, nationality, and command of English or French are therefore completely irrelevant for acceptance decisions.

Contributors will conform to the following guidelines :

1. The manuscript should be double spaced in 12 point font on one side of the paper only and be accompanied with a title, a summary of max. 100 words, key-words and reference-codes according to the nomenclature of the Journal of Economic Literature. For contributions written in French, the title, the summary and the key words should also be provided in English. The manuscript should be accompanied with the name of the author(s), their affiliation and possible acknowledgments together with the address details of the corresponding author.

2. The bibliographical references must conform to the following conventions :
a) In the manuscript, indicate the name of the author(s) followed by the year of publication, e.g. Keynes (1936) ;
b) At the end of the manuscript, in the reference section, a bibliographical list must be given in alphabetical order.
- For monographs (books, reports …): Keynes, J.M., 1936. The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, London : Macmillan.
- For articles published in periodicals: Katz, M.M. and C., Shapiro, 1987. “R&D Rivalry with Licensing or Imitation”, American Economic Review, 77(3), pp. 402-420.

3. Diagrams and figures should be in a form suitable for immediate reproduction. They should be accompanied by the basic statistics that were required for their preparation. Statistical tables should be clearly headed and numbered and be as self-explanatory as possible. Units of measurement, base-dates for index number, notes and sources should be clearly stated.

4. Mathematical formulas should be numbered in an ascending order and contributors are asked to conform to the conventions adopted in recent articles of Brussels Economic Review. In particular, circumflexes, bars, tildes and dots above letters should be avoided where possible and the layout of mathematical expressions especially alignments, centering, length of fraction lines, and type, position and closure of brackets should be carefully checked.

5. After acceptance of the manuscript, contributors are responsible for the correction of proofs. Alteration should be kept down to a very low level and the editors reserve the right to refuse or/and charge additional fees for alterations made other than the printer’s errors.

6. For any article in collaboration, the co-authors will be represented by one of them, which will satisfy the guidelines enumerated above. 25 free off-print by manuscript will be provided. Additional off-prints may be ordered at the contributor’s own expenses.
