PhD position

The department ELEC of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, offers a funded PhD position in low-rank approximation, focused on numerical methods and applications in signal processing and system identification. The position is to be filled in as soon as possible and the expected duration is 4 years.

We are looking for a candidate with strong background in numerical linear algebra and optimization. Experience in system theory and system identification is an advantage but is not required. Candidates should have excellent English language skills and working knowledge in numerical computing and software development.

The open position fits into the “Structured low-rank approximation: Theory, algorithms, and applications”, “Decoupling multivariate polynomials in nonlinear system identification”, and Block-oriented nonlinear identification using Volterra series grants. This project covers a wide range of applications and the PhD research topic can be adapted to the interest of the applicant. A major element of the project is the development of the SLRA package.
